Brigitte Nielsen, Persuader/Adapter/Stabilizer Parent
Submitted by Editor
I had to take the Parenting Quiz three different times because I parent each of my four boys a little bit differently. Also, the way I react to things depends on my mood, the state of life I'm in, the age of my children and how they've been acting recently. It turns out I'm a combination Persuader/Adapter/Stabilizer parent.
The Stabilizer in me sets the rules. There are a few things that will never change in my house: We eat breakfast and dinner together every day and at bedtime it's lights out—no fooling around. These are the rules that my kids have been following ever since they were tiny. They know that's how we do things and they always (well, usually) fall in line. I rarely, if ever, let them break the rules, and I think they like and respect the consistency of these things. It makes them feel comfortable and safe.
The Persuader in me is a ton of fun! I can be very silly and clownish and get my kids or my husband to do pretty much anything. I really think it's important for kids to laugh a lot, and I make it easy for them because I love to be a clown! I'm happy, I'm an optimist and I'm colorful—and I think that sets a great example for my kids. I love to persuade them to give new things a chance. And when I act all silly and fun, I can get them onboard.
I'm an Adapter because I have to conform to different situations. I simply have to because each kid is different and I can't make all four boys happy every day with all of our busy lives and schedules. Sometimes everything seems to all run together and life is incredibly chaotic. It's great to have a busy, full life, but you have to be willing to deal with it and adapt. My kids are great at adapting to my lifestyle. Sometimes I have to go away to do a movie or a show and it makes all of us sad, but we have to deal. And the good thing is that when I get back, we adapt our lives to spending 24/7 together. Our lives are intense but wonderful.
Just in case you wanted to know, I am really not a Cooperator. I set the rules and I don't mind conflict! And I'm far from a Fixer. I would like to be one, but it's just not me. I'm a Stabilizer/Adapter/Fixer and I'm proud of it!
Besides being a mom, Brigitte Nielsen is a Danish actress best known for her roles in films like Rocky IV and her appearances on the reality TV shows Flavor of Love and Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew.
