TV Talk With Hollywood Insider Brooke Anderson
Brooke Anderson, mom to almost 3-year-old Kate and co-host of The Insider, is usually the one asking the questions. But we got a chance to turn the tables on this TV savvy mama and ask her a few questions to find out what life is really like being a mom and a Hollywood Insider!
How do you balance your work and being a mom? Very carefully. It's a day by day balancing act as my schedule can change at a moment's notice when there's breaking news or if an interview comes through at the last minute. I strive to keep consistency in my daughter's life. It's imperative that my husband and I stay organized when it comes to her schedule. I am extremely lucky he is such an amazing partner and doting dad. Also, my parents and my in-laws visit frequently from Georgia, so we are not shy about asking for their help! It's a team effort, and as long as Kate feels loved, safe, and secure, I have done my job as a mom and I try not to let working mother guilt consume me. So when you're not on mom duty, part of your TV job is pretty fabulous—walking the red carpet. What's that like? It's a bit odd to be honest. Like most women, I enjoy getting dressed up and looking my best, but standing on a red carpet and posing in front of hundreds of photographers is not something that anyone can really prepare for or find normal. Luckily, the photographers always guide us step by step. They make it simple and enjoyable. A red carpet event is like a party. It's high energy and really nice to catch up with friends in the industry I haven't seen in a while. For all of us moms who love red carpet fashion, can you tell us how you choose a red carpet dress? When I worked at CNN, I was my own stylist. I would shop for the dress and my husband and daughter usually helped me choose. Kate would point and smile at her favorites! Now, The Insider has provided a wonderful stylist who pulls dresses from designers and brings them to the office for me to pick a favorite. It's a luxury to have a stylist, and I am so grateful because it saves tons of time! Can you share any funny red carpet moments? Oh, where do I begin?! Recently to get an interview with Elton John at The Golden Globe Awards, I rushed a little too quickly off our platform to try to get his attention. I missed a step in sky-high heels and a long dress and tumbled right onto the red carpet with the edge of the step slicing into my leg. My adrenaline was racing, so I quickly jumped up and kept working. I missed Elton John unfortunately, but I did get George Clooney and Madonna before the arrivals ended and the medics arrived! What was your favorite celebrity interview? I admire celebrities who have depth, intelligence and conviction. I always enjoy talking to actors and musicians who care about society and are trying to make positive changes in the world like Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, George Clooney, and U2's Bono. Meryl Streep and Glenn Close are also two of my favorites. They are wonderful examples of strong, talented women in the industry who aren't afraid to be themselves. And what does your daughter think about her mommy being on TV? My daughter's only seen me on television a few times, but when it happens she reacts like it's a normal occurrence, waving and saying "Hi Mommy!"
