Jennie Garth's Kids Sleeping Routine

If I was on Super Nanny, she'd put me on the "Naughty Mat" in a heartbeat. There are so many things I do with my kids that she's strongly against. My biggest offense is that I lie down next to my kids until they're sleeping. They're 10 and a half and 5 and a half, and I stay in their room just to be with them as they drift off to dreamland.
I know that there are a lot of books and doctors that say this is a big no-no, but I refuse to give it up. My kids are so busy all day long with school and sports and after-school activities that I need that downtime with them. That quiet, intimate time before the kids are sleeping is the best! I'm able to focus on each one of them, and I love it. It's my favorite part of the day.
Kids grow up so quickly. The next thing you know they're in high school and you're the last person they want to be lying next to before they go to sleep. I want to cherish this special time and make the most of it.
Sure, sometimes it's a pain. I have a million other things that I could be doing at night, but nothing is more important to me right now than seeing my kids off to sleep. I tried the whole "cry it out" thing. It just didn't feel right. So I decided to take this approach and it works for us.
And as far as I can tell, my girls haven't suffered for it. They're respectful and independent. They're not afraid to try new things or do things by themselves. So whatever we're doing seems to be working great!
