Karyn Parsons: The Grass Is Always Greener ...

Our friends ask us over for dinner and tell us to bring the kids. And we do: Our kids are great at our friends' houses even when we stay till 11 PM. They hang out and play, sometimes watch TV, whatever. They're really good about going out and being up late at night. Our friends can't believe this. They wish they could be so flexible with their kids' bedtimes.
When we ask a friend's family over for dinner, nine out of 10 times dinner has to be served well before 7:00 PM so they can get their kids home and in bed by 8:00. It's all good.
But the funny thing is, while they're jealous of our late-night lifestyle with our kids, my husband and I are jealous of the "in bed by 8:00, full-night sleep" thing that they have going on.
I guess you always want what you don't have. You can't have it all, right?
