Kellie Martin on Nurturing Kids' Imaginations
Submitted by Kellie Martin
I'm really not into electronic toys. I think they take away the magic in ordinary objects. (Plus, they're loud and annoying.)
My daughter Maggie loves to pretend, so I wanted to really nurture that. I want her to learn in a different way. This is something I've always thought. There's no creativity in having her take something and press button that says it's yellow. It might be more interesting for her to come up with her own idea for what it should do.
I want my daughter to be able to take something and create her own ideas from it. I want to avoid taking away her chance to learn and pretend, and let her find the life in her toys ... without her toys blinking and beeping and telling her what they do!
Besides being a mom, Kellie Martin is best known for her TV roles as Becca on Life Goes On and Lucy Knight on ER.
