Shanna Moakler on Co-Sleeping
Submitted by Shanna Moakler
I co-sleep with my kids and I don't care what anyone thinks about me for it. I didn't do it with my first, but now we all sleep in the same room. Our youngest sleeps in the bed with us and the other two sleep on the floor (we made a bed for them at the bottom of our bed so they can be right there next to us).
Yes, it's challenging to get alone time, but it just feels so good and right for the whole family to be together at bedtime. We do make time for date nights, and sometimes we go to a hotel to make it really fun. (Also—if you want the details—sometimes we just go and sneak into another room while they're sleeping so we can get some quality alone time together!)
When my husband [Travis Barker of the band Blink-182] got into a plane crash, our worst fear became a reality. And one of the biggest fears we have is leaving our kids. It's really difficult for us because we think we may never see them again, and when we have to do it, we always cry. The other day we were in bed talking and our kids wanted to get some sleep so they went to their own bedrooms—and even then we were so sad!
Honestly, we don't even care if they end up sleeping in bed with us until they get married! I mean, really, they're going to move out one day—we might as well get the most out of them while they're here.
