Custody: Deadbeat Dad in the Making

My son's father and I haven't been together since my son was like, 2 weeks old. His father has been part of his life though. They see each other once a week (or more!)
But, today his father wrote me an email telling me he was moving to Georgia. We live in Maryland! His note was asking me not to be mad at him.
I don't mind this, really. I won't lose any sleep over him being gone, because we never had a "good" relationship anyway. I am married now, and happy with my husband. BUT, still, WHY does he want to move to Georgia?!
Supposedly, he met a girl online. He has gone down there to meet her ONCE and only for a week. And now he's planning on leaving our 5-year-old son for HER? It will hurt my son terribly. He wants him for a month or so in the summer, but that's not enough! My son is going to be hurt!
I told my ex just to leave, that it's fine, but that HE needs to tell my son why he is leaving. I will NOT take the blame I feel this is the most selfish thing he could have possibly done to my baby.
