Submitted by
alison
You: How was school today?
Kid: Fine.
You: What did you do?
Kid: Nothing.
Sound familiar? Get your say-nothing kid to say more by asking an open-ended question: "What was the hardest part about school today?" or, "If you could vacation anywhere with your friends, where would you go?" (If he answers, "Vegas, baby," try not to worry. At least he's talking.)
