My Disrespectful Stepson

My stepson seems to hate me. He's been asking me why I had to marry his dad, why I can't just leave them alone and go away, things like that.
Yesterday he attempted to blackmail me over something that happened three years ago and wasn't a big deal to begin with. One of my old guy friends rode by our house and saw us standing outside playing and he stopped and said hi. I told my husband this when it happened and he was fine with it. Well, yesterday my stepson tried to tell me that he's going to tell his dad about it if I dont let him go outside and play (he's grounded because he is failing his grade). This is the first time he's done that and I didn't/don't know what to make of it.
For the past year or so he has been acting extremely disrespectful and downright nasty towards me and I have no idea how to make it stop. My husband and I both have tried sitting him down and talking to him, we've tried discipline, we've tried everything but nothing helps. What do I do?????
