Family Travel: Overnight Essentials for Baby

Your first (or fifth) overnight trip with the baby can be a little daunting. What if he won't sleep? What if he won't eat? What if the hotel doesn't have a bar? Until you get the hang of it (and probably even after you do), this checklist will help you make sure you have all the essentials for baby during family travel. (Cocktail shaker not included.)
  • Diapers
  • Wipes
  • Changing pad
  • Diaper cream
  • Nursing pads and burp cloths
  • Bibs
  • Baby bottles or sippy cups
  • Formula
  • Baby food
  • Baby spoon
  • Pacifiers
  • Umbrella stroller and/or baby carrier
  • Diaper bag
  • Small first-aid kit: Bandages, allergy medicine and pain/fever reliever.
  • Entertainment: Toys, books, etc.
  • Portable crib and crib sheet
  • Blankets
  • A few comfort items from home: The blanket, stuffed animal or other adorable (and sometimes rank) item they can't live without.
  • Prescription medicine
  • Babyproofing supplies: A roll of masking tape and a bag of rubber bands are great for makeshift babyproofing. Use tape to cover electrical outlets, to secure washcloths to the corners of tables, or to keep baby out of the toilet. Rubber bands make great cupboard door holders and cord keepers.
  • Night-light
  • Extra info for hotel stays
