English Scones

An easy and quick scone recipe that will have you feeling positively English. Now, if only Mary Poppins would come by and clean the kids' rooms.
- 2 cups plus 4 tablespoons flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- Pinch of salt
- 4 tablespoons butter
- ½ cup milk (may need more)
- Chocolate chips (optional)
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Mix all ingredients except chocolate chips (if using) together.
Combine thoroughly. Dough should be fairly stiff. If it seems too dry, add additional milk.
Place dough on a lightly floured surface and roll into a 12-inch square.
If adding chips, sprinkle onto dough, fold dough in thirds so chips are on inside, and gently roll out again into a 12-inch square.
Fold dough in thirds (like a letter) to form a rectangle.
Cut dough into eight triangular pieces.
Bake 12 to 15 minutes, until golden.

- Use a pizza cutter to cut dough easily.
- For more decadent scones, brush the tops with melted butter and sprinkle with sugar before baking.
