Kellogg's Recalls Cereals

You may have to throw out your boxes of Froot Loops, Apple Jacks, Honey Smacks and Corn Pops.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Kellogg's cereals have announced a voluntary recall of marked quantities of four breakfast cereals due to an off-flavor and smell coming from the liner in the package. The cereals named in the recall are Kellogg's Apple Jacks, Kellogg's Corn Pops, Kellogg's Froot Loops and Kellogg's Honey Smacks. The recalled products were distributed throughout the U.S.

While the potential for serious health problems is low, some particularly sensitive consumers could experience temporary symptoms such as nausea and diarrhea. The off-taste and smell is caused by a slightly elevated level of an FDA-approved waxy resin used to make the packaging materials. Although this substance is commonly used in packaging, too much was present in the recalled cereal and it should not be eaten.

Affected cereals are marked by the letters "KN" right after the Better If Used Before date. Products with a "KM" designation are not included in the recall. No other Kellogg's products are part of this recall and no products in Canada are affected.

Those with questions or who would like a replacement may contact the Kellogg's Consumer Response Center at 888-801-4163 from 8 am to 8 pm Eastern time.
