Apple Walnut Cobbler Cake

Your family will go (wal)nuts over this dessert. Is it a cake? Is it a cobbler? Is it fat-free? Well, no, but go ahead and indulge anyway.
- 4 cups apples, peeled and thinly sliced
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 cup chopped walnuts
- 1 cup flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- ¼ tsp nutmeg
- ¼ tsp salt
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 cup evaporated milk
- 1/3 cup melted butter
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Grease a 2-quart baking dish.
Combine the apple slices, brown sugar, walnuts and a teaspoon of cinnamon in a medium bowl. Spread evenly in the baking dish.
Mix another teaspoon of cinnamon with the nutmeg, baking powder, sugar, flour and salt in a bowl.
In a different bowl, combine the melted butter, egg and evaporated milk.
Add the butter, milk and egg mixture to the spice and sugar mixture and stir until smooth.
Pour the mixture over the apples in the baking pan.
Bake for 50 to 55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

- Serve this cake at room temperature with whipped cream or get fancy and serve it warm with ice cream (a.k.a., à la mode).
- Up everyone's fruit intake by adding a half-cup of cranberries or raisins to the apple mixture.
