So we have been trying to get our son Alejandro to talk, sounds, vowels anything that might sound like a word.  He has a speech delay and we just started working with a speech therapist and occupational therapist this month.  Its frustrating because we know he is behind and on top of this he puts everything in his mouth.  We have started preschool once a week to have him around other children who talk, its been a very slow process.  Any information or advice from other parents would be appreciated, thanks a bunch!!

My son was slow to talk as well...we taught him sign language so he could express his needs and his frustration level went down...as he used the sign language he started to use the words as well....it helped a lot...hoping that the therapy starts to work soon....I know that it can be hard for momma as well

Sounds like you've taken some great steps already! One of our sons started occupational, physical and feeding therapy last fall and preschool in January and all of them have made a huge difference for him with his own delays. His delays are in gross motor and fine motor with some feeding issues so I'm not sure about speech tips but hopefully if you keep up with the "homework" his therapists give you that will help. I know too it can help to wait for your child to ask (whether it's using a sign or their own approximation of a word) before you give them something, so they have motivation to try to talk. Have you done any sign language with him yet? That can help any communication frustration you have in the meantime while his speech is gradually improving.
