I got a Kindle Fire!
My friend bought me a Kindle Fire HD last night! It's been pretty fun to play around with so far. Any tips or book recommendations???

I think with Amazon Prime you get a free app a day that changes daily. Some were useful some were not. We use it mostly for streaming shows and for the shipping. It is worth it for us just for the shipping. If you wouldn't use for any of that then the free book a month would probably not be worth it.

Is this just for you or are you going to let the little ones play on it? There are some interactive books that are great! I think most of the ones we bought were from oceanhouse, the Little Critter books and the Dr Seuss ones.
I have been reading Terry Pratchett books lately, they are just fun and there are tons of them. There are also tons of classics that you can get for the e-reader that are free. I use project gutenberg for that usually. I have started reading some of those though I have realised that I am a shallow reader and find many of the books I should read sort of boring and enjoy the ones that book snobs don't so I have no idea what to recommend as far as that goes. I like Jane Austen. Many of her books are free to dl.
There are so many apps available that it is hard to know where to even start. I say let your interests guide you there. I tend to like word puzzle games. I play wordament right now. I am not sure if it is on android, we have Windows phones. On android I used to play Words with Friends.
I am not positive but did the Kindle come with Amazon Prime for a month? They have a lending library for books if so. You should really take advantage of Amazon prime if you can. It is a great service.
Yes it came with a free month. I was kinda bummed though that you can only download one book a month. Why else would I want Amazon Prime really? If the borrowing was unlimited I'd be all about it but now I'm not so sure.

Wow what a great friend! have a ton of fun playing with it...when I got my Ipad I couldn't put it down for days...couldn't wait for the kids to go to bed so I could play with it :)
That's exactly how I feel! I'm also getting the vibe that I can do pretty much anything you can do on an ipad on a kindle (with a couple limitations) so that's great!

what sort of genres do you like?
Well I don't really read much! I never really was wanting an e-reader, my friend just wanted me to have one! lol So really I'm up for anything good.
What I do usually ready is Christian Fiction but right now I am in the middle of "The Time Keeper" the first book I downloaded to my kindle.

Ooh, enjoy it!No specific recs off-hand but I will say, MoneySavingMom.com frequently posts links to Kindle books that are free or super-cheap, like $0.99. I keep an eye out for those and have gotten some good books that way!
