So I fell down the stairs (while carrying my 16 month old) almost two weeks ago. (will be 2 weeks tomorrow) I injured my tailbone in the process. The day after I did it I could barely walk and well sitting was almost out of the question. Nearly a week passed and it was starting to feel better but now it's becoming quite sore again.

How long should I let this go before getting checked out or do you think it's just one of those things that takes a while to heal?

I would get it checked out! Different part of the body, I know, but about 4 years ago my mother tripped oversomething and what she thought was a twisted ankle turned out to be a few tears (2, I think) and had to have surgery to fix it. She tripped over a toy.

Honestly I think you should go see a chiropractor. If you slipped something it probably won't heal on its own. And tailbone pain will defer and feel like pain somewhere else my mom had pain forever and couldn't figure out where it came from.

I took my friend maegan snowboarding for the first time and in the process of the weekend she managed to break her tailbone, she caught her heel edge and fell hard the first day and every spill after that just made it worse.

It took almost 9 months for the pain to go away and there was nothing the docs could do about it. Problem is is that you use it alot so it never gets the time it needs to heal up quick like a bone in a cast does, your constantly sitting or laying on it which continues to make it hurt, the good thing is that it is fused into your pelvis, you can crack it and it stays in place.

It'll take about 6 weeks for a broken bone to heal depending on the injury, of course.  If it's not broken it's an injury which can still take many weeks to heal due to the fact that it is in a continually used area (sitting, walking etc.)  I thought I'd just banged my toe a few weeks ago but then I realized it was almost definitely broken.  I've had to just leave it because they can't really do anything for a toe.  If it's still hurting in a few weeks I'll go see about it.  I think it's pretty much gotta be up to you and how much pain you're in, you know your body better than anyone else.  Hope you feel better soon

Personally, I would go ahead and get it checked out on Monday, especially if it's getting worse again. Hope you feel better soon! And how is your baby 16 months already?! My goodness, other people's kids grow up so fast! ;)

I know! She got so big so fast.

Thanks everyone. It's not like excrutiating pain or anything but definitly uncomfortable. Almost like a burning feeling at times. No fun...

From what I know your tailbone takes a while to heal.  I am sorry that you are still in pain

So sorry...I would go and get it checked ASAP...my mom hurt hers years ago and never got it checked and she still has days that it hurts here and there.  It takes awhile to heal.

I would probably get it checked out if i were you. Anti inflammatory medication and a donut pillow can help to give you some relief in the meantime. It may be that there is not much for you to do other than manage symptoms and let it heal but a doctor can give you some reassurance that it is not more serious and some info on when you should feel better.

You could get it checked out, but my guess is they'll tell you to take Ibuprofen, rest, and alternate heat/cold.   They might be able to give you a muscle relaxer or something to help the pain if you're having a hard time sleeping.  A nice lumbar strain/sprain could take a few weeks to heal.
