Help my 4 year old drinks bottles at night!
Hey everyone I need some advice and this is the only place I can turn without feeling judged or like Im a horriblle mother. My four year old drinks bottles when she is sleeping and I cant seem to break her from the habit. She doesnt drink them in the day time nor does she need them to fall asleep but every night she wakes up at least three times and asks for one, I dont allow her to have milk in it because I know how bad it is for her teeth and its only about 2 onces in each bottle but she has to have it. If I say no she get really upset and cant go back to sleep with out it, it is almost like its a bad dream shes having , and to me the whole situation is. I havent had a good night sleep in four years. Is there any advice someone or can someone help me. What can I do to stop her from this habit so she can sleep and night and me! Also is there anyone else that has this problem :( Thanks for talking the time to listen.

Can't say I ever had this problem- but we took away bottles as soon as the girls could use sippy cups (prior to 1 year old). To avoid sound blunt- she keeps drinking bottles at night because you're giving them to her. My advice would be to throw out all the bottles, have a talk with her about being a big girl, and then suffering through a week or so of screaming and crying. Let her sleep with you if she needs to. Eventually, she won't want them anymore and it'll be like the issue never existed.
I completely agree. My daughter was taken off bottles AND formula the same time- around 10 months. I was not giving her formula in a sippy cup. It's a lot easier when they're younger I think. You're daughter knows that if she cries for one, you'll give in. That's why she keeps doing it. You need to hold your ground. i see soooo many parents just give in. I'm not one of those parents lol. I believe in tough love.

Good luck! I only had the problem with getting them from her until she was 18-24 monthes! Went straight to open top cups! I could not find a sippy cup she liked!

We didn't use bottles much at all, but my daughter was a pacifier addict (Also just for sleep. We never let her have them when she was awake). When she turned 3 we decided enough was enough, plus we didn't want her teeth to be affected, so we had the Paci Fairy pay her a visit. She took away all of the pacifiers and left a big pink and purple stuffed unicorn (something we knew our daughter would LOVE) in their place, so my daughter would have something comforting to sleep with. And we told her the Fairy was taking all the pacis to new babies who needed them, because she was a big girl who didn't need them anymore. She's 7 and that unicorn still has a spot on her bed. :)
I think the same could work, and the sooner the better. We had a couple of rough nights, but overall, the transition was pretty smooth considering she had slept with a paci for 3 years.
