All right, I hope I am in the right place to post this first of all -- & I hope other moms chime in with some ideas of what I could do about these issues I am having with one of my 3 yearolds.

We were on the right track potty training around a year ago, my son caught on and has been doing wonderfully, but my daughter really didn't take to it as well, but still did her best w/ the normal random accidents.. but something changed a long the way and she is now back in pull-ups, because she refuses (most of the time) to use the restroom and still would rather pee in her pull-up. We have explained a million times that she HAS to use the potty. We have reminded her that she won't get to go to preschool with her twin brother if she keeps this up and now she has taken to pooping herself randomly and laughing about it. I don't know what to do anymore, her father and I have discussed putting her back in diapers to give ourselves less headaches until she can make up her mind, but we also have a newborn now and I cannot see changing a 3yrolds diapers on top of everything else.

Any advice ?

Thank you all for your advice :) We have had 1 accident in 2 days, so maybe we are on a roll. She keeps saying that diapers are for babies *like our newborn son* so maybe, she's catching on. We will see.

We just went through this with our twins.  My son was a potty rock star and my daughter wanted nothing to do with it.  I knew she could do it but it was all a control issue.  I tried sticker charts, rewards, etc and nothing really mattered to her.

I spoke with her peditrician and she said to just let it go.  There are very few things a young child can control and this is one of them.  One day it finally just clicked with her

Hang in there - it can be so frustrating

Well, for one thing, plenty of 3 y/o's are still in diapers so it's not totally crazy to have one still in diapers if she's truly not ready. But if it's turned into a power struggle, I would consider just backing off all pressure for a month or so and then revisiting the issue. I would use diapers rather than pull-ups. I think pull-ups are handy for kids who are day-PTed but aren't able to stay dry overnight yet but we *only* use them for sleep. You could also try sticker charts and rewards for days she stays dry and clean, and also having her help clean up her own messes if you know she's doing it on purpose.

pull ups normally do more harm than good. it is a rare thing indeed to potty train a child without having to get your hands dirty. ditch the pull ups and resign yourself to a little clean up. see where that leaves you.

if she is pooping purposely then she CAN go to the potty, so i would start handling it like you would any other disicpline issue.

How does "she" feel about being in diapers?  If she does not like being in diapers then I would put her back in diapers and tell her when she starts going potty in the toilet regularly then she can go back to wearing panties!

Changing a pull up is no different than changing a diaper really!  And the diapers come with more in a pack than the pull ups!  I had better results using cloth training pants than pull ups!  Pull ups are just over glorified over priced diapers!
