Romantic Date Ideas: A Stay-at-Home Date

Sometimes what parents need most is time alone to focus on one another. Ironically, home can be the last place mom and dad get to think about each other. If you need to reconnect, try a romantic date night at home. Farm the kids out overnight or for a few hours and settle into some good date time at home. What an idea!

  • Start the romance before the date. Make a point of bringing the romantic into the everyday at home. Work, chores, and extracurricular activities keep families uber busy, but that doesn't mean home can't get hot and heavy on occasion. Play footsie under the dinner table. Sneak a playful pinch while taking out the trash. Talk dirty while folding laundry. It's definitely more fun than thinking about getting the taxes filed or repairing the roof.
  • Cut out distractions. Once you're alone with your honey for your date, it's a good idea to get rid of all distractions. Go tweet-, text, voicemail-, and status update-free to focus your attention on your mate.
  • We're alone. Now what? If it's been a good long time since you've had a date, the idea of being just a twosome can be bewildering. What do we DO with each other? Well, anything really. Watch a romantic movie, read to each other, take a bath, enjoy a leisurely dinner, dance to your favorite music, practice a new massage technique, or just get naked and see what happens.
  • Practice makes perfect. A romantic date at home doesn't have to be a big production. When the kids are out of the house or even just napping for a bit, grab a little one-on-one time to keep the spark alive. Then the next time you have home to yourselves the romance will show up automatically.
