Healthy Relationships: What to Expect from Your Husband

Submitted by Paula Bernstein
Healthy relationships rely on two involved, committed, and supportive partners. But here's our relationship advice: don't be fooled into thinking that the perfect husband exists.

Real life isn't a fairy tale. Even if you believe you have found your true love, you can't expect him to be a perfect husband. Let's be real. Nobody's perfect— even you!

But that said, there are some basic qualities you should expect in a healthy relationship. If your husband doesn't do any of the following, then you might need some serious relationship advice:

1. Your husband should make time to spend with you— apart from family time. Healthy relationships rely on intimacy. It's hard to be intimate when you're juggling play dates and car pools.

2. Your husband should never make you feel bad about yourself or make you afraid. If you've got a supportive relationship, you should feel comfortable talking openly with your husband about any problems you are having.

3. Regardless of whether you are with the kids more than he is, your husband should feel comfortable and confident taking care of the kids on his own.

4. Healthy relationships require respect. Your husband should respect and value the work that you do— whether it's in an office or at home or both.

Of course, healthy relationships require give and take. Your husband should expect the same things from you!
