Spice Up Your Sex Life: Treat Vaginal Dryness

OK! You've had your baby, you've waited the requisite 6 weeks and at long last the doc has given you the go-ahead to hop back into bed with your man. Woo hoo! Only one problemo—you'll probably find that things aren't the same "down there" as they were pre-baby. One major post-baby problem for a lot of women? Vaginal dryness. But don't worry! It's a totally normal and temporary symptom of having a baby.

It's common for postpartum hormonal changes to dry up your vaginal secretions, meaning there's less natural lubrication down there for a while. Breastfeeding hormones can also cause vaginal dryness. It's basically your body's way of saying, "I'm really busy feeding a baby here, so I'm going to make doing the deed slightly uncomfortable to keep you from getting preggers again!" In truth, you may find that you're a little dry for as long as you continue nursing. The good news is, once you wean, things should go back to normal. But what's a post-partum mama who wants to spice up her sex life supposed to do in the meantime?! Well, when it is time to seal the deal, keep in mind that good ol' Mother Nature may need a helping hand. Over-the-counter water-soluble lube will do the trick for most couples, but don't be afraid to ask your doc for a prescription for estrogen cream if vaginal dryness is a particular problem for you. And don't be embarrassed, your OB has heard (and seen) it all. We promise!

Getting everything comfortably working down there is a great way to spice up your sex life after the long drought most couples experience after having a baby.
