We'll never fully understand why sock-mates can't stay together forever, but just because one disappears doesn't mean that the other one becomes obsolete. Put your widow-sock to work as a sachet bag for unseen areas like closets and junk drawers. But you might want to wash your partner's socks a second time before putting any precious jewelry in there.
