Minimizing Mealtime Mess
Feeding a baby or young toddler can be one messy experience! Your kid, your shirt, the floor, the ceiling ... everything ends up coated in the meal du jour. On the plus side, if you're letting your kid make a big mess, odds are you're letting him feed himself, which is really good for him developmentally. So kudos to you! That said, you don't have to live in total nastiness. Here are a few ways to lessen the mealtime mess:
- Invest in a plastic mat to put under your kid's eating area. That way when the meal is over, you can just pick it up and shake or hose it off and the floor won't get destroyed.
- Feed your kid topless. It's much easier to wash off your kid's chest than do 100 loads of laundry a day!
- Buy a highchair or booster seat that's easy to clean. Don't get one with a big cushion that's impossible to scrub down.
- Invest in a full-body bib. They look like painter's smocks and cover your kid's arms, chest and lap.
