Toys everywhere? Try the 30-second cleanup. On the whistle, instruct your kids to clean up as many toys as they can in 30 seconds. With a little luck, they'll be so into the challenge that they won't realize they're doing work. (Kind of makes a case for setting a timer while you're cleaning the kitchen, doesn't it?)
