Hair Care for Moms: Getting the Right Cut
Emme's Beauty & Hair Tips
Hair salons can be intimidating for some women—but they don't have to be. Here are four steps toward making the salon experience not so stressful for you and your tresses:
- Before you walk in the salon door: Do your homework. Find the right stylist. Your relationship with your hairstylist can make all the difference in the world. Ask around; get recommendations for a stylist (maybe even one who specializes in your hair texture).
- Find the right cut. Tear out pages from magazines or cut out pictures of the cuts, colors and styles you like. When you're out with friends or just people-watching, see what styles turn your head. Make sure that you're not going too trendy. (If purple streaks are in, buy a purple purse instead!)
- Once you're in the salon chair: Communicate clearly. Make sure that your hairstylist and you are on the same page before he/she starts snipping. Show the pictures, and see what adjustments need to be made to make the style work for you. You don't want to switch gears midstream or find out that you miscommunicated your wishes to your stylist.
- After the haircut: Speak up. If you love it, say so (and give a big tip!). But if the end result was not what you envisioned, speak up before you leave, so your stylist can try to get it the way you want (or as close to it). In other words, don't leave silent and angry!
