Tracey Gold: Fixer Parent

Submitted by Braden
I'm a fixer! Having four boys in the house (five if you count my husband), how could I possibly be anything else!? There's not a lot that overwhelms me. I can adapt to all situations completely. If there is a problem that comes up, I'm gonna find a solution for it—whether I have to research it on the Internet, think a lot about it, get creative or whatever. I can fix anything.
As a mom I'm seen as someone who is really self-sufficient and very able-bodied. I have four boys and no nanny, so it's very natural (and common) for me to have the baby on my hip, the 4-year-old holding my hand, and then the two older boys right in tow. I don't even have to think twice about it. I'd much rather do everything myself than get someone else involved. My mom always says, "Why didn't you call me to help?" when she knows I'm running around with Dylan (the baby) as I get Aiden from preschool and then Bailey and Sage at their schools ... and then take them all grocery shopping. I make it all happen. I find a solution. My brain works very well this way. It always has!
My oldest, Sage, is a lot like me. He's intense and tries to find a solution to everything. That might be because he's the oldest. I'm the oldest in my family, too. I have four younger sisters, and the youngest is 15 years younger than me and I helped raise her, so I've been pretty much acting like a mom since I was a kid. I love the role of being my sisters' advisor and having them come to me for answers, opinions and advice.
My personality is like that in general. I love to learn new things. I'm an information junkie. So having kids and getting even more responsibility was really exciting to me. And it's fun for me to make it all look effortless. Parenting is the hardest and most rewarding thing I have ever done, but it's also the most fun. I love a good challenge.
Besides being a mom, you might also know Tracey Gold from her role as Carol Seaver on the TV show Growing Pains.
