When my older daughter was young it was a big no to Barbie but then when she got older and started receiving them as gifts then my youngest daughter started playing with them. I had to lighten up a little because you can't say yes then no to the other. I just try to balance it.
I personally never liked Barbie - only played with her when I couldn't convince my friends to play with something else. So it has kinda of rubbed off on my girls. So a commercial on TV the other night and one of the my twins (not quite 3) says "Barbie is yucky!" My sister-in-law says "Why?" and the other twin pipes in with "Barbie is for sissy girls." LOL (at least I think it is funny :)
I don't see anything wrong with the dolls. Kids see what you show them, and if you show them a positive body image, and help teach them te difference between a doll and a real girl, they will see it. I agree though, the Bratz dolls...not in our house!
My lil girl hasn't been born yet but my husband and i decided not to buy her the Barbies or Bratz when she comes of that age...body images these days r so bad we r hoping she will b an animal lover...lol
My daughters played with Barbies from age 4-10 & I was perfectly okay with it. Then their friends got Bratz dolls & I did not like them & would not let them have any even though I told them if they went to a friend's house it would be ok to join in on playing with them but I would NEVER buy them. But they are out of the doll stage now.
I AM COMPLETELY FINE THAT MY DAUGHTER HAS BARBIES, THEY ONLY SEE AN IMAGE THAT YOU TEACH THEM. AND AS FAR AS BODY PARTS, THEY HAVE TO LEARN SOMETIME! I AGREE WITH THE OTHERS ON THE BRATZ DOLLS, THERE IS A REASON FOR THEIR NAME!
So far, anything that I've seen that is connected to Barbie (movies, games, etc...) are pretty wholesome. Bratz, however, are not an example I want for my kids.
