Will you induce labor if you're still pregnant at 40 weeks?

The lolongr your baby bakes in there, the better. Research it. Einstien was in the womb almost a month late, and a lot fother very intelligent people. The later you are, the more IQ potential your baby will have. Its good for him. Don't be selfish.

I would consider it at 41 weeks, but due dates aren't always accurate and I've seen lots of babies that were normal term that we thought were overdue. I've also seen babies induced at 36 weeks and have trouble because they thought they were 40 weeks.

I voted no. Of course, that's only unless it's better for me or baby to induce.

If there is a reason yes. I had to be induced with my daughter so I know what to expect this time.

My initial reaction is no... but I have a history of miscarriage, so I've said I'll be pregnant for an extra week or two if I could guarantee we won't lose this one. If there were a problem or a good reason, I would consider inducing labor

Yeah, I'd rather not, I'd rather the baby came out when he was ready, but if it's getting too difficult I'd probably do it.

You know, I think I agree that Induction makes the labor more painful. I was induced with my two kids and I am desperately hoping for a natural labor this time around!

I wanted to go naturally, but I also didn't want to risk a C Section or my child being too big and things getting complicated. I gave her the full 40 weeks, as a pregnancy should last. I scheduled my induction the next day after my due date. Everyone told me that the first ones are usually late. My doctor said I showed no signs of coming into labor so I didn't want to risk our health. I also got asked for induction at 38 weeks. By the time she was born at exactly 40 weeks, she was at 9 pounds, imagine if I had gone another week!

Both of my children were late. At 40 weeks with my first I took castor oil to get things moving along, and it worked. With my second at 40 weeks my doctor scheduled an induction, but kept moving it back because I was not dialalted. ( I tryed the castor oil again and nothing happened ) So at 42 weeks my son decided to grace us with his presents at nine and a half pounds. Yes, I would of had him any time after 38 weeks if I could. Both of my kids are perfectly healthy.

My first son was past his due date by 10 days. The doctor wouldn't induce until a patient was at least 2 weeks over. My second son was actually induced on my due date. In that case, the doctor had asked if I wanted to be induced 2 weeks early, because I was carrying him so low that I could hardly stand up straight without excruciating pain. Plus, I was home alone all day and lived half an hour away from the hospital. We waited as long as I could stand it. As for arguments over whether or not induction hurts more or is bad for the baby, I really can't say. Both my boys were fine, and by the time I really started having contractions, the pain medication had worn off. Both times my doctors congratulated me on having a pretty-much natural birth. (If I could have strangled them. . .)

its a difficult question at that time you can be so miserable that you just want it to be over on the other hand i was induced before and oxytocin( that is supposed to make the contraction stronger and closer together) is hell!!!!!!! if you thought a natural contraction was bad try getting increasing doses of the stuff its like a turbo charged contraction. then agin everyone takes pain differently

I went into labor, then had to be induced because it slowed. I didn't notice any extra pain..

I was scheduled to be induced 11 days after my due date with my son, and he came the day before the induction!! With my daughter I was induced at 39 weeks because I was having gall stones throughout the pregnancy and the DRs wanted me to have the gall bladder removed ASAP.

When my mom had my sister she had to go into induced labor because she miscarried her first child. they figured she was unable to go into labor so when she was pregnant with me they were planning a C section with me. But the funny thing is she did go into labor with me, on the due date! Which happened to be my grandmothers birthday too.

My mother carried both her children to 43 weeks because the doctors kept telling her that we were healthy & she should just continue naturally. The problem was that when I was born, I weighed 11 lbs and couldn't fit through the birthing canal easily. They had to crush my shoulders & other fine things. I told my doctors this, and they said that although natural is best, it can be very stressful on the mother's body if the baby develops to such a degree. Therefore, we have decided to induce labor at 40 weeks to keep me from this experience. Birth is painful enough!
