my mother always raised me to appreciate what i received. So thats what im trying to teach my son, his father (my ex) likes to spoil him, but im going to TRY to teach him not to be materialistic.
I love my in-laws, they are so terrifically generous, but they go overboard for Easter. Christmas is one thing but Easter is a full-blown present holiday! I don't want my kids to grow up greedy, but she won't listen to me when I tell her that one present is enough...and just from HER! But no...it's from the aunts and uncles and cousins too! My kids think their birthdays are in March/April because they get more presents on Easter than their bdays! It's nuts! I don't think Easter should be a presenty holiday - just a basket with some candy and that's that!
It is definitely a big deal at our house, but not because of presents. We celebrate Christ's resurrection by going to church, then we gather with our family for a nice meal and an egg hunt for the younger kids (okay, the older kids get in on it, too!). We do put a couple of small gifts (CDs, etc.) in the Easter baskets, but we don't go overboard on that aspect.
We love easter at our house! We die eggs, have easter egg hunts, do easter pictures, presents, family meal and this year I saw easter gingerbread houses that are really cool.
