What?? C-sec even when I am fully dilated??
Submitted by neusgirl
Sunday night, need to go to the bathroom again!! Half asleep like usual cause its just routine by now cause I am due in a week. Done peeing so now to wipe.. what?? Im peeing again?? That wakes me up!! Its not stopping.. my water broke!!! Its 1am.. what do I do? I go to to the hospital in the morning. They don't believe me that my water is but they tell me to come back in the afternoon. Different nurses on so they have to check to see if my water actually broke too. Contractions about 10mins apart so sent home again. My parents get into town so we go for supper.
Contractions getting harder. Watch tv for a few hours (should have gotten up and walked around or something:)
10pm parents decide to go to their hotel to get some sleep. As soon as they leave I get up to go to my room and get the worst pain I had ever felt in my life! Thought I was dying!! My husband decides we need to go back to the hospital.
We check in and I end up being only 3 dilated. I always wanted to go drug free but I guess when the hubby sees you in pain he forgets the plan and just wants the pain to go away:) So the nurse gives me a shot of Demerol and I fade in and out of consciousness till 330am when I all of a sudden need to take a poo! There are no nurses around so I ask my hubby to help me to the bathroom. I just sit down and a nurse walks in. She wants to check me before I go to the bathroom. I tell her I really need to go. She checks and I am 9! Well thats great news but I still need to go to the bathroom..
They call the doc in. He gets there at 4am and checks, says Im 9 1/2. Checks again at 430, all of a sudden there is an ultrasound machine in the room and I don't understand what is going on! The doc says we have to do a csec cause the baby is breached!!
For real?? I ask for the epidural then if I have to have it anyways. 5am the surgeon comes in to explain what is going to happen. Did they really think I was coherent enough to understand what was going on?? I wanted to push!! Take the pain away if I am not allowed to push.. About 530 I was wheeled into the operating room and finally was given the drugs, 559 our baby girl was born:)
That should be the end of the story right?? Wrong..
The next day, Wed, they tell me I should be walking around cause it would be good for me. I try crawling out of bed, doubled over cause I am in pain. Now I am thinking Im a wuss cause I cant handle the pain and I just want to sleep.
Thursday, not any better. Start sweating really bad in bed. Need my sheets changed every few hours. Nurses still want me to get out of bed and try walking.
Friday I push myself so hard to try sitting in a chair so I can learn to nurse my baby sitting up. Nurse on duty decides I can go home! Yaaa! I walk out to the car doubled over but I get to sleep in my own bed.
Sat, still in bed. It hurts to get up to go to the bathroom. Parents on both sides decide I need to go to emerg to find out whats going on. Doc on duty says I have a bladder infection and if I take the meds it will be gone in 48hrs.
Monday, still in bed. If its possible I am pretty sure the pain was worse! Tried to have a shower, took the bandage off my incision and it bursts open! Hubby calls the doc and he says come see him right away. I am still out of it at this point and don't really know whats going on. All I know is that I stink like rotten eggs..yuck!
Doc looks at my incision and tells me that I need to go get checked into the hospital, did I mention its my birthday??!!
Go to the hospital and the head surgeon comes in and cuts my incision open right on my bed then shoves it full of gauze. The nurses have to change the bandage twice a day and it hurt! That night everytime I woke up I saw people looking at me in the window beside my bed or I saw my baby in peices lying in the sink. By morning they decided my drugs needed to be changed.
Tuesday I was shipped to to the next town for a CAT scan. I was so dehydrated. Couldnt wait to get back to eat something and drink. Walk into my room, go to the bathroom, get on my bed ready to eat and the head surgeon comes in to say they want to do a D&C so I am not allowed to eat or drink anything. I start bawling!! It was just too much.
Wednesday they let me have a shower, It was wonderful!! After that I started getting better and they sent me home on Easter Sunday.
Can't say I enjoyed my birthing experience and I pray I never have to go through something like that again. (Especially when it took 6 months for my incision to close up!)
I am pregnant again and looking forward to having a VBAC. They have now been given permission to deliver breached, which would have been nice with our first cause she was only 6 1 1/2:)
