Childbirth Methods: I Loved My Water Birth

Submitted by Nancy D.
There are all sorts of childbirth methods and I've experienced two of them personally. My two births couldn't have been more different! My labor and delivery with my first child was terrible. I was in labor for 24 hours. I tried for a home birth but ended up being rushed to the hospital, the baby pulled out by forceps. For my second child, I wanted everything to be different. So I researched childbirth methods and decided to have a water birth.

It was ammmmaaaaazzzzzing. So peaceful and calm, the antithesis of my first birthing experience. The lights were dim. Daddy and the doctor were gathered around me. It was amazing. The baby was born into the water so seamlessly and easily compared to the first time around. He was so at peace from the moment he was born.

My kids are now grown up and they are so different. My first child is, shall we say, a wee bit high strung. She's a go-getter perfectionist. She's intense and emotional. My second kid is as calm as they come and always has been. The first was a tantrum-thrower who didn't sleep through the night for ages. The second slept through the night almost immediately and barely ever cried. It's hard to say how much their different childbirth methods played a role in their personalities.

I'm not saying it was the water birth that made my second kid so chill, but maybe, just maybe, it was. Who knows, maybe the way we enter this world has something to do with our demeanor.
