Oral Sex: Is it Safe During Pregnancy?
You enjoy oral sex, but now you're pregnant and you're wondering: "is it safe during pregnancy?"
Is it safe during pregnancy? The good news is yes, oral sex is safe during pregnancy— as long as you're in a monogamous relationship and your sexual partner is HIV-negative and does not have any sexually transmitted diseases— especially herpes. It is possible to transmit herpes simplex 1 (fever blisters) to the genital area. Just to be safe, use a dental dam. They come in different flavors and colors and can be incorporated with a healthy sex life.
Also, keep in mind that it's not safe to blow air into the vaginal or urethral areas. It's unlikely, but if your partner blew hard enough, you could develop an air embolism (a blockage of a blood vessel by an air bubble), which could be potentially fatal for mother and child (not to freak you out!).
So is it safe during pregnancy? Yes, but take precautions.
