Natural Pregnancy Remedies: Acupuncture & Preterm Labor
I'm interested in using natural pregnancy remedies to treat my pregnancy symptoms and complications. How effective is acupuncture at relieving preterm contractions?
Some women respond really well to treating preterm contractions with acupuncture, while for others, it actually aggravates the problem. You won't know which category you fall into until treatment is started, however. The response usually can be seen immediately and, if necessary, the needles can be withdrawn at once. In my experience, a woman who is more deficient in qi (energy) will respond better to acupuncture, while someone who shows signs of energy blockage or stress will respond better to natural pregnancy remedies like touch and visualization.
Preterm labor, which affects about 12% of pregnant women, can be serious and further complicated by the worry that it causes. If preterm labor isn't halted, a baby can be born before he or she is ready which obvisouly isn't a good thing. I believe it is absolutely worthwhile to try acupuncture as a treatment for preterm labor, even if you're not sure whether it will be effective. It is definitely worth having a consultation with a Chinese medicine practitioner who understands natural pregnancy remedies to determine whether there are underlying constitutional weaknesses that need to be addressed. Even if you don't end up having an acupuncture treatment, you might gain valuable information and learn about other natural pregnancy remedies and approaches that might be helpful.
