Now that I'm pregnant, should I tell my healthcare provider about the eating disorder I had when I was younger?

Definitely. Not only are you likely to need some extra support in coping with the bodily changes that occur during pregnancy: there are also some solid medical reasons for letting your doctor or midwife know about your eating disorder. A study conducted at Harvard Medical School found that women with eating disorders face a higher-than-average risk of developing pregnancy-related complications, giving birth to a baby with a congenital problem or experiencing postpartum depression. If your midwife is aware of the problem, she can ensure that you get any additional help you need to manage your eating disorder during pregnancy.
