Dieting During Pregnancy
Is it OK for me to diet while pregnant?
I know it can be hard to watch those pounds pile on, but you should never attempt any type of diet when you're pregnant. Instead, work with your health care provider to determine an appropriate and well-balanced weight management plan.
In general, pregnant women need to be mindful of the number of calories they consume (about 2,400), but these calories must come from varied food groups, such as fruits and vegetables, eggs, beans, lean meat, chicken or fish.
Include low-fat dairy products in your diet, as well as some carbohydrates, and limit the amount of saturated fat you eat. In special cases, a woman may need to follow a special diet when she is pregnant, but this should occur under the supervision of her health care provider.
