Pregnancy Weight Gain While Pregnant With Twins
How Much Weight Do You Need To Gain If You're Carrying Twins?
If you're carrying twins or triplets (or more!) you can expect to gain more weight than if you were carrying a singleton. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists recommends a weight gain of 35 to 45 pounds during a twin pregnancy, though many doctors suggest that weight gain should be higher—around 40 to 50 pounds. Weight gain between weeks 20 and 24 of pregnancy is especially important. Studies have shown that if a twin mom-to-be gains 24 pounds by the 24th week of pregnancy, she reduces her chances of preterm labor.
If you're pregnant with triplets, quads or more, plan to gain even more weight. Around 50 to 60 pounds is average for a triplet pregnancy; 65 to 80 pounds with quads.
