Pregnancy Nausea and Embarrassing First Ultrasound
Submitted by kammerbaby
I had an ultrasound at 6 weeks to rule out an ectopic pregnancy because I was having a lot of pain on one side. I've been having pretty bad pregnancy nausea and morning sickness, but so long as I eat immediately in the morning I'm usually okay. Aside from the fear I was feeling, I actually felt pretty good on the day of my first ultrasound. I hadn't thrown up nor did I feel nauseous.
I already drink a lot of water, so drinking and holding 32oz of water prior to the ultrasound was no problem. I left work to go to my ultrasound and as I was driving I had to gently burp. I was by myself so I let it rip (in fact I would let it rip if I was around friends or my husband as well). I felt another burp coming so I let that one rip too, except to my surprise I projectile vomited all of the water and everything I had eaten onto my lap and my steering wheel and even my windshield.
I have to say I have never in my life projectile vomited before. Even from my awful pregnancy nausea. I was so shocked by what was happening and how fast it happened I could do nothing but keep throwing up all over myself like a fire hose. After I was done I looked down and I was coated in a slimy mixture of water and the strawberry shake I had had a few hours earlier and some remnants of my breakfast.
We all know how awful milk-vomit smells. Thankfully I had some dirty (but at least not vomit-covered) laundry in my car, so I went to the Radiology Lab with a change of clothes under my arm. I checked in but I guess was so scared about my baby's health and the upcoming ultrasound that I broke into tears before I could ask the lady if had a moment to go change before the ultrasound. She pointed me to the bathroom (a single handicapped-style bathroom) and no sooner had I opened the door and looked at the toilet than my pregnancy nausea hit again and I projectile vomited another time. I mopped up the mess with a bunch of paper towels, changed, and put my vomit-covered clothes in a plastic bag.
Regardless of my embarrassing pregnancy nausea episode, all is well! My ultrasound went perfectly, and my baby is perfectly healthy and within the uterus. Yay!
