Pregnancy Symptoms: How to Cover Stretch Marks

Stretch marks are just one of many normal pregnancy symptoms you may experience. But that doesn't mean you want to live with them! We're not suggesting you're looking to start running around in belly shirts, but it might be nice to have some options when it comes to hiding the 'battle scars' of your pregnancy.

Here are some tips for how to hide stretch marks:
  • Self-tanners and sunless tanning treatments (not tanning beds!) can help to cover up stretch marks. At the very least, a warm glow can help detract the eye from shiny stretch marks.
  • You can also buy body makeup in the shade of your skin to cover up your stretch marks. Look for the heavy duty body cover up and not the kind you use to cover your under-eye circles (another uber-typical mom trait!), since face make up and body make up are formulated differently. Just remember that any cover up you use might come off if you go swimming.

  • To cover up stretch marks on your buttocks and upper thighs, you might want to try a "boy short" bathing suit. They'll give you more coverage than a bikini bottom and they're cute, too. Plus, many women find them less prone to riding up, so no more wedgies and hidden stretch marks—win-win!
  • If you're really troubled by your stretch marks, you might want to consult with a dermatologist to discuss techniques such as microdermabrasion or laser treatments that can reduce the appearance of this annoying pregnancy symptom.
If it makes you feel any better, keep in mind that up to 90% of pregnant women develop stretch marks, so most of the other mamas around you are dealing with the same thing. In other words, you're not alone!
