Labor and Delivery: Big Babies

Submitted by ihave3children
Well I really can't say much more than I didn't expect that. With my first born it was quite interesting. I wasn't too scared until about 4 hours before he was born. Than I just got this overwhelming feeling that I should have gotten an epidural. So, I asked the nurse and 30 minutes later I was comfy again. At 11:15 pm, the dr came running back into the room (from one of the other 4 he was delivering) and then the show began. After 2 pushes all I heard was, well that wasn't supposed to happen. My son had kicked and nearly landed on the floor. During the blur after birth, I could hear someone talking to themselves, it was the nurse with my son on the scale. 9 4, 9 6, 9 9, 10 LBS, 10 1, 10 2 and than I interupted SHUT UP UNTIL ITS DONE!!! I was terrified about the weight. I didn't have a baby, I had a line backer!!! So finally the scale stopped at 10 lbs 5 oz! Yep my little turkey. I didn't expect that! 1.5 years later, I found myself in the same situation, laying in a hospital bed in labour again. This time I was smart and went for the epidural quite quickly. Only problem was...IT DIDN'T WORK!!! 2.5 hours later at 2:56 PM my daughter was born. I looked down at the dr and he said "she looks like a 12 pounder" a very loud WHAT!!! flew out of my mouth and I nearly passed out. After she was on the scale it told the truth, 10 lbs 9 oz, another line backer!! But I expected that one. (1 oz off of beating the drs biggest baby record :(.) And now with my son being 3.5 and my daughter 1, I'm sitting here thinking "and in June its happening all over again" with a 95% chance of another linebacker, I'm quite confident that this time I will get a defencemen teehee...gotta stay positive with large babies. And p.s big babies aren't that terrible to deliver. Both of them were natural and a 3rd is planned natural. :D Happy Birthing!
