I'm watching A Baby Story and this woman is 42 weeks pregnant and would rather wait it out for her body to naturally go into labor instead of being induced. With her first son, she had to have a C-Section that she didn't really want because they thought he would be 10 pounds- when he was born he was about 8. When her midwife told her that she wanted to induce her, she seemed really upset. So if this was you, what would you do?

IMO, I'd just tell the midwife that I respectfully disagree for her to induce me and I'd wait for my body to start labor.

If my doctor told me that I had to be induced, I would let her.  My doctor has done everything in her power so far to go my way, she would not steer me wrong.  And, I would not want to risk my little boy's health for any amount of my pride of going into labor on my own.  He has fought to be as healthy and as strong as he is now, I won't let anything happen to him.

the reason the midwife wanted to induce is because the baby starts to lose body weight after 40 weeks.  i fully understand the why the midwife wanted to induce.  the woman was going to school to be a doula (if we are talking about the same episode) and was using her knowledge on the subject as well, to do what she felt was best for the baby - luckily the two were able to compromise, and the next day or so, the woman went into labor.

if i was put in that position, my words would be - "get it out!  i am done.  i have signed the eviction notice 1 week ago."  which wouldn't be an issue because at my doctor, they won't let you go past 41 weeks.

At 42 weeks, i would definetly be induced. it can be dangerous for the baby to go much past that, amnoitic fluid levels are very low after 42 weeks.

I was induced with my daugter at 38 weeks, as there were complications, and I do NOt regret it for a second. I am pregnant with #2 and if there is any kind of danger to my baby, you bet I will be induced if the doctors recommend it.

I have two sisters and neither of them could ever go into labor on thier own. Labor would start, get really strong and then just stop and never start again. There is just  something about the women in my family that our bodies are weird.  I was able to go into labor on my own but if the time came and I was not going into labor and I knew that the baby was big enough and healthy I would let the dr. induce me at full term. I know there are a lot of people who say that you wont go into labor until your baby is ready or your body is ready but that is not always the case.

It would depend how big the baby was at that time. If it was an 8 lb. baby I would for sure get induced. With my youngest I was 8 days overdue and the reason why I let my body go into labor naturally was because at the 40 week appointment she was only 5 lb. 8 oz. and I decided to let her keep gaining weight and come when she was ready. She was born at 6 lbs. As long as everything looks good and I'm not at risk of anything nor is my baby, then I'd wait even if I was really uncomfortable.

I would be induced. I know someone who waited and her kids were very big. BIG head BIG shoulders and she was ripped horribly. Honestly I would probably try acupuncture first to get it started and if that didn't work I would be induced. There can be too many issues if you wait too long.

He came out at 9lbs 2oz so he was big but no record breaker by any means.  I do fear the next time because they say they just get bigger lol

Not all the time...my babies all got smaller with each pregnancy. My oldest was my biggest. The old adage that babies get bigger with subsequent pregnancies is a myth. It all depends on the child, the mother's diet, etc. Every baby is different Smile.

Phew so there's hope yet! Haha.  Thank you for letting me know.

For me, I would wait it out. As long as everything looks good (non-stress tests, baby's heart rate doing well, etc.) I would wait. Women have gone into labor at 42-44 weeks and had healthy babies with no issues. The "due date" is really a guesstimate. There's nothing set in stone that says the baby HAS to come by that date or else! The baby is the one who decides when it's time. As this link shows, the hormone that's released when the baby "breathes" amniotic fluid in utero is the hormone that helps to trigger labor when the baby is ready. So I'm not going to force my baby out when he or she isn't ready yet. I tried that with my oldest and ended up with a botched induction that turned into a c-section.

After my passed experience, I would have tried being induced. I never went into natural labor, and even with pitocin and other interventions, my body never went into labor. Turns out I have a very small pelvic opening and my baby never dropped, which was why my body never went into labor. Granted I'm sure I'm a pretty rare occurence, but the Doc's say I could have done a lot of harm if I did try to have him naturally rather than a C section. Some people have very specific wants about their labor and delivery. I didn't give a $hit how he came out, as long as it was healthy and SAFE for him. I got what I wanted in the end :)

I would probably listen to the doctor or midwife as they are the expert and obviously have a reason for wanting to induce. It's your childs life in your hands and I wouldn't want to risk something going wrong. Not to mention my mom had a friend who waited until she was about 3 weeks or a month overdue and when she did go into labour the baby had passed away and she gave birth to a stillborn, weather it was from waiting or not I certainly wouldn't take the risk or find out the hard way. I would personally listen the professionals, Im sure there are cirsumstances where they are wrong but for the most part im sure that they know whats best for your body and the baby as well.

I'd definitely want to wait it out!  Thankfully I went in to labour the day before they wanted to bring me in to 'check' me (pretty sure they wanted to induce because the baby was big).  I wouldn't have let them, at that point I was only 39 weeks anyway.  He came out at 9lbs 2oz so he was big but no record breaker by any means.  I do fear the next time because they say they just get bigger lol

unless this baby is in distress, or my water breaks I am not going to let them induce me. The baby will come when it is ready...
