Hi

I'm in my first trimester, and the morning sickness is pretty bad. The only thing I can find to eat that doesn't turn my stomach is junk food!  The only thing I can drink without throwing up is milk. I found this out the other day when I opened my lunch at work and I threw up just smelling it. One of my co-workers had a cheeseburger from McDonalds an it smelled so good. I was really hungry (from throwing up all morning) so I went and got a burger. It was seriously the best thing I've ever eaten; and I hardly ever eat McDonalds, or fast food in general. I know it's not healthy, but by that point I was so hungry and just beat out I wanted some comfort food. So I ate it and felt better for the rest of the night. The problem is now I'm having issues eating anything else. I'm dying for a cheeseburger all the time, and the vegetables and fruit I'm trying to eat are turning my stomach. I'm wondering has anyone had this problem? Obviously I can't be eating burgers every day, but it's so tempting when I spend all day feeling nauseated/throwing up because the food I'm trying to eat is not agreeing with me.

Any thoughts?

I feel like I just read my own post but a couple months later. I am currently 16 weeks and posted this same issue in my first trimester. My doctor told me, whatever you can keep down eat it. Obviously all in moderation. I felt like the cheeseburger took my nausea away and so I was able to eat other things as well. I say, if it makes you feel better..especially at work get a cheeseburger. But try eating something else for the rest of the day. I limited myself to one a day. I'd have to say though, it seems for me a cheeseburger is my choice for craving this time around. I woke up this morning wanting one. Anyways, I wanted to let you know that I was in the same boat and still am.

Same here. This little one had me eating crap my whole first trimester. Sometimes the most I could keep down was a Twix or Reese's PB Cups and soda... Seriously! I had that for breakfast quite a few times lol. Beef didn't appeal to me at all, so burgers were out for awhile. I lived on cereal and PB&J. Thankfully, baby outgrew all that lol. So now I'm eating healthier, but I still crave complete crap some days. Right now I want cake and a milkshake lol.

I did this with my first pregnancy.   It was so hard to eat anything but M&Ms  They were like crack to me, and literally (in the beginning anyway) the only thing I could keep down.  Unfortunately because of my inability to eat anything else (and after a while, not trying) other than those M&Ms I obtained gestational diabetes.  So becareful, because diabetes is a pain in the ass, and when you have issues keeping anything but junk food down it makes your pregnant life hard.

Just becareful, and try to stay hydrated because your baby needs you too.  Plus, You can start having braxtin hicks if you don't.  Take it easy, and if all else fails try Vitamin B3 That helped me with my nausea, but only upto 100mg NO MORE

In your first trimester being sick is very normal. The fact that you are able to eat cheese burgers is a good thing. The baby does not need very many nutrients at all at this point so you eating cheese burgers is fine. I had a gastric bypass when I was a teenager and I cant handle a lot of foods on a normal basis let alone being pregnant, sometimes the only thing I can stomack is ding dongs, and donuts. lol like someone else said you do need to stay hydrated or you will feel much worse, if water makes you sick try sipping on a poweraid to get some electallites in you, and if that does not sound pleasing to your belly try adding an orange poweraid to a ginger ale ( I LOVE THIS and can usually stomack it) hopefully you will feel better soon. good luck.

I was the same way during my 1st trimester (about to start my 3rd!). The only thing that ever sounded good to me was french fries or any other form of potatoes. Sometimes I would eat potato chips until my stomach felt well enough for me to eat something healthier.  Saltine crackers made me gag but the chips worked. Just make sure you are taking prenatal vitmins and at least keeping some food down.  Keeping food down (even if not the healthiest thing) is better than not keeping anything down.  I also drank Ensure shakes to help with getting nutrients, and the milk chocolate flavor is pretty delicious I think. Also I was told by my OB that taking Vitamin B12 helps with nausea. I never took it because I never got to the point of vomitting.

There are many women who have this problem, at least I've read about several (no kids yet, but I'm doing my research to be prepared). I would see if maybe your doc has some suggestions to help with your nausea and food rejections/morning sickness. Some women swear by sea bands, magnetic bracelets, or other motion sickness treatment. And there are some medications that may help (generally they are prescription). The bottom line is as long as you are eating something, whether or not it's healthy, your body has fuel and you don't have to worry about the baby leeching from your body in order to grow.

If it's burgers that help you, maybe try a healthier version like a soy or veggie burger? If you don't like those, maybe a lean meat burger made from lean beef, chicken, or turkey? Or a fish patty (has the grease but provides more nutrition than a fast food burger). Or maybe eat a burger and see if your body can stomach something a little healthier to go with it, something bland-ish like mashed potatoes, rice, pasta, tofu, or applesauce?

lol. All I ate for my first trimester was milk, cheese and potatoes. If eating fruits and veggies isn't working what I did so that I still got plenty of both I drank plenty of juice especially the V8 juices. I went threw a ton of those. =) When your body keeps getting sick you have to make sure that you stay hydrated.

Same here I can only eat junk food to keep something in my stomach.....like sweet stuff and cheesy stuff.....also I cannot stand to eat my own cooking.....my mom cooks or sometimes my husband.....milk always helps calm the stomach whether you are pregnant or not it helps with heartburn or nausea.

I would recommend you drink alot of juices especially V8......juices like that has means of sustaining you......you can always incorporate it into your junk foods.
