If you had a baby in your late 30s
what was your pregnancy like? If you'd had another when you were younger, how did they compare? I had my boys when I was 32 and if we have another baby, it would be when I'm 37 or 38. Just wondering if my age would likely make much difference compared to my first pregnancy. (I know after 35 you're considered "advanced maternal age" and get some extra monitoring but it doesn't sound like the risks go up all that dramatically.)

Yeah, I agree with PP's! I was 38 when I gave birth, you automatically pop as being at risk for having a baby with down syndrome after 35, but it does not mean the baby has DS! They just monitor closer especially if you opt out of the amniocentesis! I got 5 ultrasounds, and lots of pictures of the US! I was just happy I had a client who had children after 35 who told me that, because I would have been sitting on pins and needles when the test came back as being at risk, and I probably would have went with the amnio, even though I didn't want to!

Thanks for the responses! And TwoLoves, I know what you mean; I'm figuring that having two boys to chase next time around will be the biggest difference for me, too!

I will be 35 when this baby is born. I was 31 and 33 when my other kids were born, and it has been relatively the same. I have had some extra monitoring and a few more appointments than I did with them, but nothing is dramatically different. After 35 the risk of Down Syndrome rises to something like 1/365 cases which my doctors have continually warned me about since I didn't get an amniocentesis. I think this pregnancy is harder than the other two because I have to chase around two boys all day ;)

I had my first baby at 35 and my pregnancy was so easy that if my belly didn't grow I wouldn't have known I was pregnant. I will be 37 as well when we start trying for our second one:)
