Is it unhealthy to be eating loads of lemons? I can't stop myself at the moment! But i've been eating so much of them that its burning my tongue and the inside of my mouth and i still cant stop eating them lol. Is there any risk that i could be damaging my mouth? Any other problems that can come up from excessive consumption of lemons? Is it a common craving?

Girl NO! I asked the doctor when I was really little (9 or 10) if it was safe to eat lemons? He said it was fine because lemons and lime carry a natural acid that kills bacteria... So I asked my Dr. at my last appt. and she sid it was fine.

I have always ALWAYS eaten lemons and limes with salt and pepper. Now that Im preggers it even worst.

have you had alot of severe morning sickness? because unlike peppermints or ginsing this was reccomended to me when i was pregnant. but, like stated before, everything in moderation. I was addicted to lemonade, lemon candy.. i carried a slice in a baggie just to smell when i felt queasy. but i also craved salt n vinegar potato chips and either orange or tomato juice.

Thanks for the advice guys. I've started to squeeze the juice out in a glass and drink with the straw, my mouth doesnt feel too bad now lol so maybe it did have something to do with my teeth. Also to those recommending other citric fruits such as grapefruit and oranges, are they not so acidic? I need to start thinking about my health before my wants from now on lol and if they wont ruin my teeth as much i'll try and swap over. Gonna be hard though, i want a lemon right now lol :D

Be careful with eating TOO much citrus. I have always loved lemons and added lemon juice to lots of my food. Then while pregnant added craved grapefruit and pineapple all the time. All the high acid foods took a toll on my previously almost perfect teeth. I ate them daily, often multiple times per day. I didn't notice the damage until it was too late. Now I have a few teeth with damaged enamel. I didn't realize the risk. My dentist gave me the following advice: if you have lots of acidy food cravings, be sure to use a toothpaste that helps protect enamel and if possible drink acidy juices with a straw to minimize contact with teeth.

I don't know about about eating lemons, but I always want to eat stuff thats sour!

Im 20weeks, and this insane sour craving just started 2 or 3 weeks ago, and doesn't seem like its going to let up any time soon, and yeah I know what you mean when your mouth and tounge start to hurt from all the sour stuff...

lol, I think about eating it and my mouth gets all watery and I just can't help myself lol

I have an acquaintence from India.  She was telling me when I first found out to start squeezing lemon on EVERYTHING.  Apparently for Indian women, lemons are a staple during pregnancy.  For them it supports their pregnancy though I'm not sure how...

Like PPs have said, maybe try not to eat TOO many off the rhind, squeezing them in and over whatever the heck you want should be no problem, though!

I love lemons during pregnancy! This time around though it was grapefruit in the begininng. With my first preg, I was waitressing during my first trimester (all the way up to 7 months if you can believe it, ha!) and whenever I would get nauseous I would run to the bar and snatch a lemon wedge and suck on it. Worked like a charm!

I am curious....does anyone have  a clue why lemons seem to be a predominate craving?? It just seems like an odd food but I have craved lemons since almost day one as did my boss and a friend of mine ( both due about 3 weeks before me) and, oddly banana popsicles  and lemon italian ices really help with nausea.

Someone mentioned it already, but a straw protects your teeth from all the bad things.  Squeeze one over ice and suck away.  that's what my mom has me do with things like that since she is a dental assistant and super teeth conscious.  Eating a lemon a day while your pregnant will not hurt you either, as long as it's not a long term habit.  Just try to keep it minimal and use an enamel strengthening toothpaste in the meanwhile.

I crave lemon all the time too. I put a tablespoon of lemon and lime pure juice in my glass of cold water and drink it with a straw. Drinking with a straw doesn't damage your teeth.

HAve you tried eating grapefruit instead they are sour and acidic as well.  Lemons mixed with pregnancy teeth(already weakened) can't be good.

Lemons are very good for your body, but beware they are really bad for your teeth. the acid in them can eat away the enamel on your teeth

During my first 2 pregnancies I was craving lemons like crazy! I have problems with acidity but somehow eating lemons was making me feel better. I'd eat lemons till my lips crack :D:D LOL I also had severe nausea through both pregnancies, so this might helped me somehow: when I ate lemons with a little bit of sugar I kept my food somewhat down. But this time I don't crave them much. I have more problems with acid reflux and take medcine for it what helps fighting nausea a lot (I take medcine only if it really is bad). I do crave green apples this time :)

other than the acidity and your teeth, lemons are very good for your overall health! they're not brought up much, because truthfully, not many people can eat them whole.

Everything in moderation.  Maybe try switching out lemens with oranges or pickles or something.
