Alright, this one is pretty "out there" but my husband and kids like it. We watched "The Borrowers" on Netflix last night and the girls name is Arrietty, which they loved. If we used it, we would use Harriet, nn Arrietty.

What do you think? Too strange? Would Arrietty strong enough to use on its own, or too weird?

I saw The Secret World of Arrietty in theaters and I loved it... even my mom, who generally doesn't like anime, enjoyed it. I liked the name but thought it was too out-there for real life.

Yeah I think Arrietty with the nickname Ari (aree) is fine as a name in it's own right. Don't think you'd need to use Harriet to back it up at all : )

The new Miyazaki movie?? It looks SO cute, I haven't seen it yet, but if it's on Netflix, I know what I'm doing tomorrow!!

Nope - the original movie from the 90's. It's really good though, we all love it. :)

I think Arrietty's an adorable name, I think it would be just fine on its own, or as a nickname for Harriet. I'm not a huge fan of Harriet, though, so I'd vote for just Arrietty alone. It's definitely a little unusual, but not hard to pronounce or spell. Not too strange at all, in my opinion. <3

Arrietty is cute!  I've actually heard it's a German variation of Harriet or something, though, so I think it could actually stand on its own, but I do think Harriet works better.  Very cute.  :)  I like the quirky but classic feel of this much better than Sienna, personally.  :)

I really like the name Arrietty. I don't like the name Harriet at all though. Arrietty would be wierd as a nn for Harriet, they're two different names and Arrietty is strong enough on it's own.

I loved the name Arrietty ever since I heard it on tv. LOL. I think it is too strong to use it as a nn for Harriet however.
