I loved the name(s) _____ until...
I started this thread as a way to vent my frustrations of not being able to use a name I absolutely love for one reason or another. It seems that all my favourites are already used by a family member or friend, just too popular, or my spouse dislikes it. Currently there are no names I absolutely love, only a handful of names I somewhat like.
I know I'm not alone in this so feel free to add your own names and personal reasons why you or your SO decided you would not or could not use it.

I loved the name Cullen (my sixteen-year-old nephew's name) until Twilight. Now I feel if I were to ever use it as a middle name people would assume it was because of Twilight.

I love the name "Delaney" for a girl, but my SO doesn't. He wanted "Vladimir" for a boy and I can't stand it. I told him we're not 18th century vampires. We compromised that he wouldn't push for Vladimir if I let go of Delaney. It was a compromise I had to make in order to ensure any of our future boys would not be teased mercilessly.
18th century vampires! Too funny for real! Although...both Delaney and Vladimir are somewhat gp names for me. I could put up with both for a moments time.
How about when they use a name on a character in a movie or Tv show that you absolutely despise? Would that change your opinion or would that be a silly reason to stop liking a name? For instance: Aria/Arya. I always thought it was really pretty but now I hear it and think of an over-sexualized teenager in a relationship with an older man (and a liar to boot) because of Pretty Little Liars or an overly violent desensitized tomboy because of Game of Thrones/A Song of Ice and Fire. Pretty is the last word I'd use to describe that name these days.

I loved the names Lucifer and Jezebel until I found out about their unpleasant Biblical connotations.
I also loved Nathan until I met a remarkably unpleasant Nathan.

I can't stop laughing at this!
Lol. Me either. 18th Century Vampires. *giggle*
I'm sad for you that he doesn't like Delaney. It's my oldest daughters name and I love it.
My BFF and I made a similar pact...she'll never use the name Logan (which I can't stand) if I promise to never use Elijah (which she can't stand). Haha.

I loved Leda/Lita until my so kept saying we needed to go to the store to get a Lita (liter) of milk. I loved Georgia until my SO started talking in a southern twang pretending to be an inbred redneck.
I usually start to dislike names when I hear them too often, even if I am saying them to myself. There were so many names that I would like for a couple of weeks and then get bored of that my so refused to discuss names with me andymore. A month before dd was born I narrowed our names down to 3 and refused to think about making a decision until she born. Thankfully I still love that name and haven't gotten bored of it yet.

I loved the name Holly until the spelling 'hollie' became really popular. I can't stand 'ie' endings.

Mostly I just begin to dislike names I loved before, because I say them to often and think to much about them :p ..

I loved the name Nathaniel until my sister used it as her youngest son's middle name. A sister is too close IMO to have the name be used in any slot by me or any of the other siblings. It gets worse. Our #1 boy's name was Zane Nathaniel. My spouse loved it as well. My brother just named his son Dane Zeke. Zane is too close to Dane. The letter Z being that Dane's mn is Zeke is also too much of a clash for our liking. Bummer! To top it off my sister just named her baby girl Zoie so there goes another Z name in the immediate family so we have now just scrapped Zane althogether. The icing on the cake with this frustration is we also loved Chloe'. Chloe and Zoie? I think not!
Maya: until a handful of people I see on a regular basis have used the name. It has been my #1 girls name for quite some time now. I am also an Early Childhood Educator and in the last few years the number of Maya/Maia/Mia/Myas have increased...sometimes to the point that I'll have 2 or 3 of them in the same group. I also can't decide which spelling I like the most. Because it switches daily, I worry if I still decided to use it, halfway through my daughter's life (granted I had a girl) I'd regret the spelling we chose. For instance the last few months I've liked Mya the most because I see it the least but writing this today I think Maia looks nicer.
Willow: #2 on my girl's list. This was THE name. It was about to be bumped to #1 until... a) it was a name I chose with an ex. b) my spouse does not like it (most likely because I had picked it with an ex) c) I now get the "It's cute, but isn't that Pink's baby's name?" and d) My sister makes fun of it everytime she hears it.
Names I like now but can't see myself using for our hopefully soon to be baba: Isobel, Gabriel and Devon (male or female). My SO only likes Devon out of the lot but only for a boy and I like it only for a girl. I also suggested Clover for a girl with the nn Cloe' and it got a yes by the SO for a while and was recently shot down. At least we aren't expecting yet and still have lots of time to throw ideas around because if this baby was coming anytime soon, we'd be a lost cause with name tastes at opposite ends of the spectrum.
