Baby Shower Ideas: Who Should Throw the Party?

Is it appropriate for a pregnant woman's mother or sister to throw her a baby shower?
Emily Post would say that only non-relatives are supposed to take on the responsibility of planning and hosting a baby shower, but times have changed, the rules have loosened, and it has become much more common for relatives to do the honor. After all—who knows her better? There really is nothing wrong with a mother, sister, aunt, or cousin throwing the event.

It is also quite acceptable to have two or more people with baby shower ideas and experience work together to jointly throw the event. This way, a group of friends or coworkers can share the excitement (and stress) of planning this special day. It's even acceptable for a mother-to-be or her family member to provide her home for the party as the venue, with her friends doing the hosting, planning, decorating, cooking, and activities.

Regardless of your relationship to the mom-to-be, the most important part of throwing a shower is showing her your love and support, along with providing a special welcome to the new life she's bringing into the world. The only real etiquette faux pas is for a pregnant woman to host her own shower. As Emily would say, that's simply scandalous!
