Pregnant and in the Army
Submitted by Gemini2387
This is my first pregnancy. I am 23 and about 10 weeks along. I normally am a part of the reserve unit, so I only drill once a month in the Army. But I was deployed and injured, so I got sent to Texas and have been here on active duty status for about seven months. I met my boyfriend and the father of my baby here.
First of all, I never thought I would be so upset and depressed because I'm pregnant. I always thought it would be exciting, 'cause that's what everyone makes it out to be. So I'm already having a hard time with it, but on top of that, I'm in the active duty Army. Which makes my pregnancy about 10 times harder, and they make me feel ashamed that I'm pregnant.
One sergeant called me out in front of the whole company and said I need bigger clothes because he didn't want to see my belly and that it grossed him out. I got in trouble when I reported it (go figure—that's the Army way, I guess), and on top of that, my platoon sergeant said that I'm getting fat and I need to go work out more, but when I reported that—you guessed it, nothing happened.
Is anyone else in the military and experiencing these problems?
