The Three Most Offensive Words a Dr. Has Ever Said to Me
Submitted by MommyJensen
So I am at the doctor's office. This visit is a little different than it was supposed to be. Nine months (and some change) ago, I gave birth to a beautiful baby boy that took 3½ years to conceive (with the help of Clomid). Back in November, I went to my local clinic to have my prescription b.c. refilled. The nurse practitioner there said she wouldn't refill my script because she didn't feel comfortable prescribing the pill to someone my age (34) due to possible side effects and that I would need to visit my primary-care doctor. Highly offended, I left.
I made the appointment to see my doctor. With the holidays and everything else, I could only get an appointment in January. Now, since I have been told repeatedly since I was 19 that I would never get pregnant without hormonal help, I wasn't worried at all when my period never returned. I have gone years without one.
Three days ago I took two home pregnancy tests and ... SURPRISE!!! Both were positive. I called the doctor's office to change the nature of my appointment (ironic that it was for b.c. lol). When I went in to see her, she was wonderful. Very supportive and kind she was explaining all the things that I needed to know about this pregnancy (since she wasn't my doctor for the last one).
Then, she looks at my birthday and says, "Oh, I guess I won't be able to deliver for you. Since you will turn 35 before the delivery we have to consider you to have EXTREME MATERNAL AGE."
I like my young doctor. She is good. She didn't mean to make me feel like I am 50 and knocked up. But I have decided that those are the three most offensive words I have ever had a doctor say to me! I am hoping to recover my sense of humor about this sometime before retirement ... I mean, delivery. LOL
