My Pregnancy Journey: Surprise!

My pregnancy came as a bit of a surprise. I am a full-time student studying to become a Physician Assistant. Life is hectic; with classes, work, and a handful of other obligations, the last thing I felt I needed right now was a child. In addition, my boyfriend has two children from two previous relationships, and we found out 5 months after we started dating that his previous "girl he used to kick it with" was pregnant. Oh, the joys of being in love. Needless to say, I was a faithful birth control user, and if ever I took a pill late or missed a day, condoms were whipped out before any moves were made. This brings us to that interesting week in September 2010... Being that birth control causes one to have a very regular menstrual cycle, I thought it was odd that my cycle came a week early in September. For goodness' sake, I hadn't even started my row of white pills. I brushed it off, though, and proceeded taking my birth control pills as if nothing was wrong. Four weeks after my skewed September cycle, I was halfway expecting my October cycle. When it didn't come, I didn't trip too much; it was a week off anyway, so I was confident it was going to come two days after I started the white pills. Well the white pills week came and went with no signs of a cycle. Denial began to set in... I don't want to bore you guys with the post-unexpectedly-finding out-you're-pregnant-and-all-the-chaos-that-ensues-as-a-result story in this post. I'll save that for a separate post because it is quite a story! Fast forwarding to today, I am 19 weeks pregnant as of yesterday, and everyday I am becoming more excited about my first child growing inside of me. It has only been about five months so far, and it has already felt like the longest journey of my life. Throughout everything, though, I can't wait to meet him/her. I believe my child is a gift from God, and I am going to be the best mommy in the world to my newest love.
