Before I had my baby, I assumed I'd leave the hospital in pearls and a size-four black dress, à la Jackie O. No one told me I'd be sporting my maternity garb for weeks—OK, months. Now I know that any mom who claims to have left labor and delivery in her skinny jeans is either lying or wore a size XXL to begin with.
Still, I rolled with it (no pun intended) because I knew I'd be fit and trim again in no time. I set a goal to be "back" for my best friend's wedding in October—six months postpartum.
Well, fall came, the leaves changed from green to red and I still looked five months pregnant. I dropped in at my alma mater's Fall Fair and Mr. Henderson, my old bio teacher, came up to congratulate me on the baby. "One here and one on the way, I see!" he said. I was mortified. And, of course, the guy I'd had a crush on all through high school was standing within earshot. "Nope," I managed. "Just the one. I'm still fat from having her." That shut him up.
Thanksgiving arrived and I hadn't lost hope. "I'll look great for New Year's!" I kept telling myself as I stuffed pumpkin pie down my throat. They say, "Nine months on, nine months off," right?
When the nine months were up, I decided to give it a year.
Well, my daughter just turned 1 and I am still fat. I guess this is just the new me. Droopy boobs, bags the size of fists under my eyes and absolutely no desire to ever have sex again. This is the new and (un)improved Deva—Mommy-style.
But I'm not one to wallow. So rather than mope around in Juicy bottoms waiting for those last 15 pounds to melt away, I have decided to take action! Heck no, I didn't join a gym. I went to Neiman Marcus last Thursday and dropped $1,100 on clothes. I figure if I'm going to be fat, I might as well be fat and fabulous!
I felt the same way, I've heard "Nine months to put it on, nine months to take it off" as well. I had gestational diabetes and had to cut back on so much during my pregnancy, that when I had the baby I started eating all the goodies again. I still have about 20 pounds of baby weight on, and my daughter is going to be a year old in 2 weeks. But I was overweight to start with, so I look terrible. I wish I had a treadmill lol
It took me a yr to drop the 70lbs I gained with my daughter. The thing that did the trick was eating lean meats (mostly grilled), LOTS of veggies (raw & cooked), some fruit and limited carbs. To that I also added 3days of strength training with basic hand weights (amazing how those buggers work) and 3-4days of jogging 5miles on my treadmill. I have only gained 25lbs with my son so far (30wks along) and plan on going right back to my "kick your a$$" work out plan asap.
Man.. I gained 50lbs with my first daughter and lost it all a few weeks after having her, but once I stopped nursing I gained it all back because I just kept eating like I had been all along.. now that my second daughter is here (I only gained 15lbs with this one..) I'm planning on nursing longer and continuing to watch what I eat.. wish me luck!! lol
Well I know exactly how you feel. I gained 50 lbs when I got pregnant and was hoping that with a gym membership and breast feeding that i would drop all if it quickly. My son is now 20 months old. I have only lost 20 of the 50 Ibs that I was going for and I did work my ass off at the gym for 2 hours a day for about a year before I started to lose hope. I took a few months off from the gym, but have started back up again. I feel like I am losing it faster now then I was in the beginning. I have dropped 8 lbs in the past 2 weeks and I am hoping that if I can keep that up that I will be back in a bikini by July. So don't give up hope!
I'm a working mother of 2 toddlers...one is 33mo & the other is 14mo. I have been pretty fortune with weight my whole life. I have never had a weight issue & have been able to eat whatever I want & not gain an ounce. I actually lost weight with each child. I keep weighing less each time. But my youngest is now 14mo & I am now gaining back the weight. I'm now starting to get a little worried & am now going to start watching my weight. You don't just suddenly gain weight overnight. It gradually is put on over time. I don't eat a lot so I think I just need to exercise. It's just so hard just hard to find the time to go exercise when you have 2 toddlers. You also need to have the motivation b/c you're so tired chasing after 2 litle ones.
Good luck to all of you who are trying to loose weight or get back into pre-pregancy weight.

well that's what i say my ass... my son turns 1 tomorrow and i am still 50 pounds over weight but i feel like i do everything to lose it but some crazy work out everyday just because i don't have time but i still i have my hopes up about losing my weight
I feel exactly the same way! I am young mom...(19) and I feel as if I don't fit in with my friends. On top of that, I don't feel sexy either! My boobs went from D's-DD's and I hate it! I'm looking at diet supplements. I feel disgusting...but you go FABULOUS MOM!
I was doing great and almost had lost all of my belly 4 months postpartum and then got a tailbone injury and was bedridden for about a month and put a lot of the weight back on. Once I finally get my body back it's not likely I'll give it up again. I hope my kid likes being an only child. lol
Yeah, my kids almost 2 and i still haven't lost my belly fat. My mom told me the same thing. It took you nine months to gain it, it'll take you nine months to lose it...Yeah, ok. Some people are just alot luckier than others.
I feel like even if you drop the baby weight in pounds, the belly flab just isn't going to go away!! Mine is hanging on for dear life and no matter what I do, it doesn't disappear.
hey my youngest is 3 and i still look 5 months pregnant despite all the trying the belly wont go away now im 5 weeks pregnant and im terrified to see what i look like after this one
I'm 7 months preg and plus size. So far i have not gained a pound, but i know my time is coming. All i can say is that the weight gain is part of it. Just be lucky that you didn't gain a ton. Your not going to get the nasty, disgusted, and humiliating looks. The looks i get now lol
